Tradition on Boxing Day

Created by Sean 6 years ago
One of the many memories that I will always have about Auntie Mary, includes the family and how we would spend our boxing day. It was tradition on boxing day for us too all head to the Slevin's on the day after to christmas, usually from around lunch time until whatever time we could convince our parents to allow us to stay, and Auntie Mary played a key part in that, especially after a glass or two or three of red wine. 'Just another 5 minutes....please.
The tradition would not change over the years, with the boys playing computer games (ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64) in one room, whilst the Dad's would be playing cards or watching TV in another and then in the kitchen would be the ladies. Chatting away, finding things to discuss for the next 12-14 hours, and giving us all a heads up when the food was available or the fridge had been refilled.
From down the hall you could Auntie Marys laugh and it got louder as the day went on. It was a sign that everyone was having fun and she played a major part it that, plus as long as there was talking and laughter, we could stay for another 5 minutes.
These memories have, and will always stay with me and Auntie Mary will always be remembered.
